Tuition Assistance/ Student Loan Repayment

(for full-time employees)

Full‐time employees who have completed at least one year of service are eligible for financial assistance for tuition, books, registration and similar fees for completion of approved education/training (as per Personnel Policy).

 

Or, for employees bearing previous student loan debt, beginning the month after completion of the full-time employee’s probationary period, and in accordance with administrative procedures, the employee becomes eligible for up to $300.00 per month reimbursement for payments the employee has made against their student loan. An employee shall not be eligible to participate in elective education/training while using the student loan repayment benefit. An employee’s total Student Loan & Elective education/training benefits combined cannot exceed $3,600 in any calendar year. The student loan being paid must have resulted in a degree or license and the employee must have satisfactory job performance in their most recent evaluation.

To Qualify:

  • The employee has received advance written approval from the President/CEO and funds have been reserved for this education/training.

  • The employee passes the education/training program with a grade of "C" (or its numerical equivalent) or better, if letter grades are given.

  • In accordance with lRS code section 127, reimbursement for postgraduate college education will be considered taxable income to the employee.

  • Upon completion of the course, the employee shall submit to the President/CEO a certified transcript of grades received.

  • Class attendance and completion of study assignments shall be accomplished outside of the employee's regular working hours, except for required education/training. Course attendance shall not require disruptive rescheduling of other employees to accommodate attendance. It is expected that educational activities will not interfere with the employee's work and unsatisfactory job performance during enrollment may result in termination of employment.

  • Any employee who voluntarily leaves the Airport Authority or is terminated for cause prior to completing a course shall reimburse the Airport Authority for the expenses associated with the course. Such expenses may be deducted from the employee's paycheck.

  • Records will be maintained in each employee's personnel file for all educational training programs completed.

  • An employee who does not satisfactorily complete required or elective training shall return any advance payment received. Additionally, an employee who does not complete required job-related training may also be subject to disciplinary action as provided in this policy.

 

Related Education/Training Expense Reimbursement​:

  • The employee shall be compensated for travel expenses in accordance with the MAA Travel Policy.
